The UNC Varsity cheerleading squad competes at the NCA Cheerleading Championships in April.

The team has been ranked top 10 in the nation for 8 of the last 15 years. In 1994, the Heels won the UCA National Championship. In 1997, Carolina was crowned both the National Champion and Overall Grand champion, making UNC one of the only schools to have ever won a UCA and NCA National Championship.

For 2007, UNC will participate in the NCA Cheerleading Championsihps in Daytona, Fla..
